Where to park in Antwerp: P+R, garages and low-emission rules

Plan parking in Antwerp: compare garages and park-and-ride with LEZ rules and city access before driving.

Parking in Antwerp: start with the LEZ

A space near the Grote Markt is useful only if your car can legally reach it. Antwerp restricts some vehicles in its low-emission zone (LEZ), while park-and-ride facilities on approach routes can make a city visit easier. Do not assume that a garage booking overrides vehicle restrictions.

LEZ and foreign number plates

Check the official Antwerp low-emission-zone rules using your vehicle's fuel and emissions standard. Foreign plate registration and eligibility requirements must also be checked. Brussels and Ghent operate different LEZ schemes; don't assume one registration works in all cities.

Should you use a P+R?

For a full day in the old town, compare a P+R on your route into the city and the onward tram or bus. The best site depends on whether you arrive from Brussels, Ghent, the Netherlands or another direction. Unlike some Ghent P+Rs, Antwerp parking should not automatically be described as free: confirm the site-specific fee, ticket method, height limit and last transit departure.

City-centre garages

A central garage may suit a hotel stay with luggage or a short museum visit. Pick it by the specific neighbourhood: Meir shopping, the old centre, Eilandje and Het Zuid are not interchangeable. Verify the entrance street, opening hours, height restriction and cancellation policy. Check whether roadworks or local traffic rules change the approach.

Before leaving home

First verify the LEZ on the official city website. Then choose the actual car-park entrance, not merely a destination landmark, and check current traffic notices and public-transport timetables. Reserve a space only if it has verified inventory at the location you need; an affiliate offer is not automatically the better option.
